About Me

My name is Beth Langlois, and I am currently a third grade teacher. This is my 5th year teaching third grade. I am very blessed to have had some wonderful opportunities in my teaching career. I did my student teaching in Kindergarten in San Antonio, TX. I absolutely loved it there. Who wouldn't like year round warmth? I decided I was going to stay. I ended up having a full time subbing position in a special needs classroom. This quickly turned into a full time third grade position. I taught in Texas for two and half years and decided it was time for me to come home to Illinois. I am very family oriented. To be away from my family was very hard for me. I found myself making a trip home once a month so it got very pricey. I have three siblings; two brothers and a sister. Along with that I have 5 nephews and a niece. I found myself missing out on a lot, and the year round warmth wasn't worth it. As of right now, I am early childhood certified. I decided last year that I would make myself more marketable and get my elementary certification. It has been an adventure, but I am excited to be finishing it up this year!

  1. Beth,
I couldn't agree with you more about the year-long warmth! ...although, like you, my family is here in the Bourbonnais/Grant Park area (I grew up in Bourbonnais but moved out to GP after I got married because my husband's dad farms and lives in the GP area), so as much as I always wish we lived in a warmer climate, I could never give up being close to my family. We have four young kids (8, 4, 2, and 5 months), and my mom and sister help babysit most of the days I have to work, which is such a blessing!

I have been at Olivet for seven years now; I taught high school at Manteno High School and coached swimming at Bradley-Bourbonnais High School for three years after graduating from Olivet with my bachelors in English education. I just finished my Ph.D. at Purdue University last May.

I look forward to working with you in this class! I have always loved teaching and learning, specifically about literacy, and look forward to reading your responses on the topic!

  2. Literacy is one of my favorites to teach in the classroom :) I am hoping I can learn even more to bring to my classroom. We have been doing a lot trying to get ready for common core. A lot of new changes :)

Did you by chance get my email about the textbooks?
